Growing Up in Githogoro

In Githogoro, one of Nairobi’s informal settlements. Life there wasn’t easy, uncertainty was part of daily life, and even finding the next meal could be a challenge. Yet, in the midst of hardship, Victor held onto a quiet dream: to build a better life and give back to his community.

That dream found direction when Empower Hope Kenya stepped in. “Empower Hope believed in me when I had nothing,”. “They paid my school fees, trained me, and helped me find purpose.”

Through the organization’s holistic training programs, Victor not only learned culinary skills but also leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurship. He discovered that empowerment is more than just opportunity, it’s the belief that every person has the potential to transform their story.

Today, Victor proudly wears his chef’s coat as part of the team at Ambatana Commercial Kitchen, a social enterprise powered by Empower Hope.
